Mrupupup encountered a very nice innovative Malay food stall selling Mee Rebus, Mee Soto and other nice Malay dishes. The dishes had nice sounding names that Mrupupup needed a fellow patron in the long queue to explain the names of the dishes. Mrupupup in the end tried the Mee Rebus 'Tarik' (costs $4.80) - a hybrid of satay meat and sauce together with the Mee Rebus - thick gravy with mee, lime, onions, green chilli and an egg. Very nice dish! Mrupupup never tasted this type of thick gravy Mee Rebus with Satay Sauce and Satay chicken meat. Super yummy. A-ONE Claypot House at Nex - yummy porridge and claypot rice

A-One Claypot House was a very nice experience for those who loved to eat porridge. Mrupupup ordered their porridge filled with shellfish and fish maw. It was simply yummy porridge! Mrupupup enjoyed the taste of the porridge, seems to taste like those yummy porridge one can eat in Hong Kong. Mrupupup  also ordered their claypot chicken rice which was also delicious with lots of ingredients like chicken, chinese sausage, chestnut, mushroom, vegetables and salted fish. If one wants hot food, do try A-One porridge and claypot rice. Mrupupup went to the A-One Outlet at Nex Mall #B1-73/74 near to the Japanese food street corner. The porridge was pricy at around $12-$13 because of the fish maw and shell fish ingredients, while the claypot rice was relatively cheaper at around $8.90. Well, as their name says it, the food was A1 indeed! Lots of fish maw and shellfish   Yummy chicken claypot rice

Pine Garden's Cake Shop Ang Mo Kio

Image
Mrupupup loves to eat and could not resist the old school cakes from Pine Garden's Cake Shop at Blk 529 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. This round Mrupupup had their yummy Pulut Hitam mousse sponge cake. The Pulut Hitam sponge cake was one creamy dessert cake which hits the palate just right to satisfy the cravings for  traditional dessert and cake at the same time. Pretty clever creation this Pulut Hitam cake. The other cake was the orange zest chocolate cake, Mrupupup loved its match of orange and chocolate all in one. This cake was not as moist as the other Pulut Hitam cake. It was nice though and pretty good old school cake. Cake price about $2 to $5 depends on the flavors. Mrupupup could not resist all the cakes and managed to take pictures of the cakes: cartoon cakes, old style cakes, black forest cake, lychee martin cake (do try this very interesting flavour!), many more! The prices are good and value for money. The shop also sells bread (not expensive) about $1 and small tarts/ t

Pretty good curry stuff - loved the tender chicken pieces with spicy curry sauce served together with fragrant rice. Other dishes we had were the curry chicken ramen noodles (about $8) and the dry chicken rice (about $8). Mrupupup also loved the decorations of the café with servers in traditional clothes. The great thing about Curry Times was that they serve biscuits - old style biscuits of sugar and it is for free! Best dish- Curry Chicken with rice & long beans   Free Biscuits     Bandung drink (Rose syrup)   Curry Chicken Ramen   A bit too dry - Dry chicken curry rice (it's spicy)

In the spirit of the up-coming Chinese new Year, Mrupupup visited the Le Café at Blk 42 Cambridge Road. Le Café also have outlets at Blk 637 Veerasamy Road and 264 Middle Road. Wow, the golf ball size pineapple tarts was simply big and very nice. Mrupupup tried one pineapple tart and it was so filling that mrupupup had no much appetite for other snacks. The pineapple tart was huge, flavourful, yummy and totally enjoyable. Mrupupup say go try the pineapple tarts and each box varies from $18 to $21 (for ten big tarts) depending on when you buy the tarts, as closer to Chinese New Year date would mean an increase in price. Slowly enjoying the golf ball pineapple tart while writing this blog post. So very good!     The shops also sells other traditional cookies

Once in a while, Mrupupup would like to sit down in a Chinese restaurant and eat. Mrupupup tried out the Crystal Jade Kitchen at Parkway Parade shopping mall at Marine Parade. Mrupupup had the tender steamed chicken, special simmering soup noodles and pomelo drink.   The chicken dish was very good. The meat was tender and marinade with a special sauce. Mrupupup ordered the very last chicken for the day. Lucky Mrupupup. Price $14.50 per steamed chicken       Special simmering noodles soup with seafood, large prawns and char siew meat. The noodles was in a soup bowl of shark fin's soup (without shark fin). The soup got other ingredients like fish, squid, char siew and mushroom. Totally enjoyable and a special taste to Mrupupup. Noodles soup costs $12.80.         All the food was paired up with a good glass of refreshing pomelo drink. Take note the drink is sour and sweet. Pomelo drink was also a good detoxing agent. Image
Loong Fatt Tau Sar Piah 龍發豆沙饼  at 639 Balestier Road serves up one of the best Tau Sar Piah (Chinese biscuits) according to Mrupupup. As one would know, Balestier Road has so many stores selling Tau Sar Piah, Mrupupup figured it out today that the one at Loong Fatt Tau Sar Piah served up the best Tau Sar Piah. Tau Sar Piah is a bean paste biscuit. Mrupupup tried the Tau Sar Piah and found it delicious, especially with a good cup of coffee! The older generation of Singapore loved eating Tau Sar Piah with coffee. Tau Sar Piah came in sweet or salty version and costs 60 cents each. The crust of the Tau Sar Piah was buttery and with the bean paste the biscuit was yummy! Haha, Mrupupup felt happy eating Tau Sar Piah. Take note that Loong Fatt is also a old style coffee shop that sells lunch and all sorts of biscuits & cakes. One can just hang out at this place and feel the old style 70s of Singapore.     Tau Sar Piah !!!

Tom's Citizoom Fishball Noodle Lengkok Bahru

Image
Mrupupup discovered at Blk 57 Lengkok Bahru there is a very nice fishball noodle stall - Tom's Citizoom's fishball noodles. This fishball noodle stall attracted a very long queue. Think Mrupupup waited for at least half an hour during lunch time. Well, at $2.50 per bowl for their Mee Pok dry fishball noodle, it was pretty cheap and good!    The Mee Pok noodle was special because the stall owner fries fish cakes fresh and cuts them into slices just before he serves the Mee Pok noodle  The fish cakes were handmade, eaten hot and the fish cakes were oozing with juices and bouncy. The Mee Pok had a springy texture which was delicious! Oh, one more thing, the fish balls were also handmade and could tell that it was made with fish paste. The stall owner also sprinkled crumbled fish crackers on top of the noodles which made it an interesting crispy blend of noodles. Also do try the fried wantons ($3) which were a good compliment to the noodles! Pretty cheap and good meal! Do

Old School Delights at Upper Thomson Road

Image
Old School Delights at Upper Thomson Road is a place where they serve food with decorative memories of school days. Mrupupup was at Old School Delights for the second time. The food was nice. Mrupupup had nasi lemak with very nice chicken wings, otak,  tender pork chops rice, Bandung rose syrup drink and lime juice. However, Mrupupup thinks the food prices were expensive. A meal could costs $10- $15 per person. For example, the nasi lemak costs $7.80, $10 for pork chop rice and drink ranging from $4 to $5. Fortunately, the food was nice, except for the otak which Mrupupup felt was left too long on the shelf and tasted not too nice. Anyway, enjoy your meal and have a look at the nice decorations of  'old school' in this eating place. Bandung Rose Syrup drink   Pork chop rice   Nasi Lemak

Family Delight Restaurant Zhi Cha Chinese Dishes

Image
Mrupupup got to tell you - there in Blk 326 Serangoon Ave 3 is a coffee shop that has a very nice Zhi Cha store that sells good Chinese dishes. Zhi Cha means preparing food fried in a huge wok, very Singapore' style of eating. This coffee shop gets pretty crowded during meals times. Most of the people would be eating from the Zhi Cha store. Mrupupup tried out the Chinese dishes and had a great time with fellow friends. Dishes like mongolian pork ribs, seafood soup, fish in sauce, fried fish slices in a melon, fried rice, very tender chicken in cabbage leaves, yusheng dish and longan dessert. Totally very nice. Mrupupup liked the tender chicken in the cabbage and found it very interesting in taste. Yummysss!
